Filming Wild Turkey Stock Video Footage

The wild turkey has become acclimated to many urban areas where it is protected from hunting. In many ways these are your best places to film turkeys. However, there are some downsides. For one, the scene may not always appear natural, such as when the turkeys are in a yard. And second, it may be hard to get good audio because of all the anthropogenic noise. Of course the turkey is known for the gobble has much as it is for its appearance, so its important to have good audio. A better option is a national or state park that doesn't allow hunting. Where turkeys are hunted they can become extremely wary, with an old gobbler every bit as elusive and crafty as a white-tailed buck. Morning is definitely the best time to find turkeys active. In forested settings a camcorder with good light-gathering capability is a plus.

The Wild Turkey

The recovery of the wild turkey is one of the great conservation stories in North America. At one time the bird was in peril, the victim of over-hunting. But thanks to game laws and other conservation efforts the wild turkey has made an amazing comeback, every bit as amazing as that for deer, waterfowl, and other species. On the down side, in the process of transplanting and starting new flocks turkey genetics got a bit mixed up. Nevertheless, the gobble of the breeding turkey is now a sound that can be heard by anyone willing to put in a bit of effort.
