Baboon
This is an old webpage carried forward to our new site. Please note that some of the information might be out of date and we probably have newer footage.
Baboon
Baboons are primates and they possess many of the intellectual skills of other members of the family. They are also highly social like many other primates. A troop is usually lead by a dominant male and may consist of several females and many younger animals.
There are 5-7 species of baboon depending on the author, with the chacma baboon being one of the more common. That species is found throughout much of southern Africa.
Filming Baboon Stock Footage
Filming baboons is relatively easy as they quickly become tolerant of people in areas where they are protected, such as in parks and preserves. They can even become a nuisance in such areas, stealing food from people at picnic areas and in campgrounds. Outside of these areas they can sometimes also become a nuisance and are not tolerated. Baboons are primarily diurnal which also makes filming them relatively easy.
